Non-fiction: Robin Burns: Just Tell Them I Survived! – Women in Antarctica (Allen & Unwin, 2001)
A scholarly book about the experiences of women at Antarctica. The author is Australian, and the focus of the book is on the experiences of Australian women within the Australian Antarctic program. This is refreshing, given the predominance of books about the American and the British programs.
The writing style is academic, slightly tedious, and repetitive. Its one of those books which seems better in hindsight, after you don’t have to read it anymore. It’s a feminist book, and has a lot of stuff about questions of harassment, prejudices and other problems related to the Antarctic macho culture.
